Cheek Filler Aftercare instructions

Cheek fillers are a great way to improve facial aesthetics, creating a more youthful and attractive look. There are different excellent cheek fillers, including Juvederm, Restylane, Teosyal, Sculptra, Radiesse and BellafillHowever, as with any medical procedure, it is important to understand the associated risks and aftercare instructions in order to ensure a safe and successful recovery. Here we provide you with more detailed information about dermal filler aftercare for cheek fillers specifically.

Immediately After filler injections

Immediately after your cheek filler treatment, you may notice certain signs such as swelling, bruising, red needle puncture marks, asymmetry, tenderness and itching in the area. These issues should gradually resolve over the next few days to weeks. Your final results will become evident at around four weeks post-treatment; however, you can be reviewed by your doctor or aesthetic practitioner at this point to see if further treatments are necessary to achieve the desired outcome. Immediately after injection, your face may be cleaned; however, for six hours afterwards, it is recommended that you avoid touching the treated area. After this period has passed, you may cleanse twice a day using a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. Avoid any harsh rubbing or scrubbing of the area during this time, as it could irritate delicate skin tissue.

Activity Restrictions

In order to ensure proper healing of the treated area, it is recommended that you follow some activity restrictions for 24 hours post-injection. You should avoid extensive physical activities such as strenuous exercise or swimming as these may cause excessive sweating, which can affect the results of your treatment. During the initial recovery period, it is also advised that you avoid saunas or steam rooms and limit exposure of your face to extreme temperatures (hot or cold). Exposure of your face to direct sunlight should be avoided for two weeks post-treatment as this could increase inflammation and make any existing bruises appear darker or more noticeable than they otherwise would have been.

Treatment Results & Follow-Up Appointments

It typically takes four weeks after treatment until final results are seen; however, some people report that they have experienced an improvement already within one week of their procedure. Further, follow-up appointments may be required depending on individual cases in order to achieve the desired outcome from treatment; therefore, it is important that patients take appropriate steps in order to maintain optimum health throughout their recovery process in order to maximize their results from cheek filler treatments. Additionally, many practitioners advise patients not to return too soon for repeat treatments due to potential risk factors associated with the overuse of dermal fillers; instead, they should wait until their full results are visible before considering having further injections performed if necessary.

Things to avoid after Cheek filler

  • After cheek fillers, it is important to avoid any activities that can cause intense heat, pressure, or strain on the treated area. For example, patients should not go to solariums or saunas and should sleep on their backs for the first few nights after treatment.
  • It is also important to avoid strenuous exercise or alcohol for 24 hours post-treatment.
  • In addition to these activities, it is recommended that patients refrain from using products containing AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids), Retinols/Vitamin C therapy, oil-based makeup and other facial treatments like facial waxing, Glycolic or AHA peels, IPL or energy-based treatments and microdermabrasion for at least two weeks following treatment.
  • If a patient wishes to have other facial treatments conducted within this period of time they must consult with their physician first. Taking these precautions will help ensure maximum results with minimal complications after the cheek filler procedure.
  • Pain relief after cheek fillers can vary from patient to patient. Generally, patients experience mild to moderate pain in the area injected, but it is possible to experience more discomfort depending on the individual.
  • Taking a sufficient dose of Tylenol before and after treatment can help a lot of patients manage any discomfort they may experience. It’s also important to talk to your health professional about any other medications you may be taking that could affect how you react to the injections, such as aspirin or fish oil.

Swelling management

Swelling relief after cheek fillers is possible by applying a cool compress on the treatment area for 10 minutes every hour on the day of treatment. This will help reduce some of the swelling associated with treatment. Additionally, using an herbal supplement such as arnica before and after treatment can also reduce swelling and help reduce bruising that may occur afterwards.

Bruising management

Bruising relief after cheek fillers is important to consider if taking drugs like aspirin, fish oil or other medications that increase the risk of bruising. Over-the-counter treatments available include Arnica and Vit K creams, which have been found to be effective at treating bruises quickly and efficiently when applied topically. It’s always advisable to speak with your healthcare provider before taking these treatments, as they are only intended for external use and should not be ingested in any way. Using a cannula significantly reduces the risk of brushing and inflammation associated with cheek filler injections

Cold sores and shingles

Cold sores are caused by a virus known as herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) and can appear on or around the lips or mouth as fluid-filled blisters that may last up to 14 days. As such, there is a small chance that receiving dermal filler treatments to the face could lead to an outbreak of cold sores in people who have a history of them. To reduce this risk, some patients may choose to take preventative antivirals or Lysine supplements prior to their treatment session or even for two weeks afterwards. If cold sores do occur after having cheek fillers, it is important to see your doctor right away so they can prescribe medication that can help soothe any pain and reduce healing time.
