Preparation

Start preparing your skin several weeks before your Fraxel session. These measures will help reduce side effects, improve comfort during the procedure and support optimal healing.

Consultation & Planning

  • Schedule a consultation with a qualified provider to review your medical history and determine the most suitable Fraxel treatment (e.g. Fraxel Dual vs Fraxel Repair).
  • Discuss any previous skin treatments or conditions such as acne scars, hyperpigmentation or sensitive skin. A tailored plan ensures you understand what to expect and how to prepare.

Skin‑Care Routine Adjustments

Before undergoing Fraxel treatment, it’s essential to prepare your skin to ensure optimal results and minimize potential side effects. Follow these steps for the best outcome:

  • Start using the prescribed bleaching cream containing 5% transaminase acid, niacinamide, and kojic acid at least 2 weeks before the treatment. Apply once daily in the evening and leave it overnight. The lotion costs $70 and is provided directly after the consultation.
  • Discontinue the use of the bleaching cream 3 days before the treatment to reduce the risk of skin irritation.
  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily and avoid excessive sun exposure.
  • Avoid using products containing retinoids, glycolic acids, or salicylic acids for at least one week before the treatment.
  • Ensure to bring your medication list and current skin products to discuss in detail during the consultation.
  • Avoid tanning or using self-tanners.
  • Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet.

Day‑of Tips

  • Cleanse your face with a mild cleanser, ensuring it is free of makeup, lotions and oils. Removing products helps the laser work effectively.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to remove without pulling over your head.
  • Bring your ID and any prescribed numbing cream. Apply the cream as instructed to minimise discomfort during the treatment.
  • Bring a protective hat to wear after the procedure to shield your skin from sunlight.

After Care

After your Fraxel session, your skin will be sensitive and may appear red or swollen. A structured after‑care plan will help you heal faster and maintain your results.

Immediate Aftercare (First 48 Hours)

  • Expect mild redness and swelling. Use cool compresses or ice packs for 10–15 minutes at a time to soothe the treated area.
  • Keep your skin hydrated. Apply a gentle, fragrance‑free moisturiser frequently to lock in moisture and reduce dryness.
  • Avoid hot showers, saunas and steam rooms. Use lukewarm water when cleansing your face.
  • Do not pick, scratch or scrub the skin. Allow flaking or peeling to occur naturally. If itching occurs, a cool compress can provide relief.
  • Skip makeup for at least 48 hours to let your skin breathe. When you resume makeup, opt for non‑comedogenic, mineral‑based products.
  • Refrain from intense exercise or activities that cause sweating for the first 48 hours.

Days 3–5

  • Continue using a gentle cleanser in the morning and evening to keep your skin clean. Always wash your hands before touching your face.
  • Maintain hydration with frequent applications of moisturiser. Avoid products containing alcohol, retinol or acids.
  • Begin applying a physical sunscreen (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) with SPF 30 or higher each morning. Reapply every two hours when outdoors.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure. Wear a wide‑brimmed hat and protective clothing to shield your skin.
  • Continue avoiding hot environments and heavy workouts. Gentle walking is fine as long as you avoid overheating.

Weeks 1–2

  • Persist with gentle cleansing, moisturising and strict sun protection. Your skin may retain a rosy “glow” for several weeks; this is normal.
  • Hold off on returning to active skin‑care ingredients (such as retinoids, chemical exfoliants or vitamin C) until your provider gives approval.
  • Keep your skin clean and avoid environments with dust or excessive pollution.
  • Be patient. Healing times vary, and improvements may continue over several weeks. Contact your specialist if you experience severe discomfort, signs of infection or unexpected changes.
