What is Botox?
An anti-aging cosmetic injection targets specific muscles to relax and stop wrinkle formations.
How do wrinkles form?
There are two types of wrinkles; static and dynamic. Botox mainly targets dynamic wrinkles and stops them from developing long-lasting deeper static wrinkles. As the name implies, dynamic wrinkles appear only when muscles are in a contraction state, as if we frown, smile, or raise our eyebrows. With infinite expressions every day, the skin loses its ability to unfold and return to its normal state, and these wrinkles then turn from dynamic to static.
Why is Botox important?
Most of us tend to make an expression even without noticing, such as frowning when we read something important or focus on our work. This unconscious muscle contraction, over time, gives us an unnatural look and wrinkles in some areas, such as smile lines around the eyes, bunny lines on the nose, the frown line between the eyebrows, and forehead lines on the forehead. Botox stops the muscles from having a full contraction and prevents wrinkles from appearing when injected into the targeted muscles.
Is it safe?
Yes, the injection is generally considered safe if an expert medical professional. Mistakes can happen when Botox is injected or diffused into the wrong muscle. This may cause some temporary problems, such as drooping eyelids or lips. The injector has to be careful not to inject outside the safe zone and assess the patient’s needs.
What to expect after Botox injection?
Botox is usually an injection with a tiny needle and is expected not to leave any marks or bruising, but it is recommended to have the injections at least two weeks before any important events. The injection site might be a bit red or swollen, but it will be back to normal. The results are gradual and usually obvious after 2-3 weeks. So do not expect to see the results as you walk out of the clinic. Remain upright and periodically perform facial movements in the areas of injections to work the Botox into the muscle – e.g., smile, squint, etc. Do not exercise or have a hot shower for 4 hours after Botox.
What does it treat?
Botox is indicated mainly for upper face wrinkles such as smile lines, crow feet, frown lines, forehead lines, and bunny lines. We also inject Botox for indications such as face slimming and facelift.
How much is a Botox unit?
Botox’s price is $10 per unit. The number of units varies from patient to patient.
