Stretch Marks
Striae (stretch marks) are indentation stripes that form on the abdomen, breasts, hips, buttocks, and other body areas. They are quite prevalent in pregnant women, particularly in the latter trimester. Although these marks are neither painful nor harmful, some people dislike how they appear on their skin. We provide different treatments At Albany Cosmetic and Laser Centre in Edmonton.
Tretinoin ointment. Also known as Retin-A and Renova, this product works by regenerating collagen, a fibrous protein that contributes to your skin’s elasticity. It is effective only in recent stretch marks that are red or pink. This cream may irritate the skin. Pregnant women should avoid using tretinoin cream.
A cream containing hyaluronic acid. When applied frequently to early stretch marks, this may be beneficial. Hyaluronic acid is usually deemed safe to use by the majority of people.
Laser therapy with pulsed dye. This treatment promotes collagen and elastin formation. This therapy is often most effective on more recent stretch marks. If you have a darker skin tone, it may cause minor skin discoloration.
Photothermal fractional oxidation. This procedure utilizes a laser to target certain regions of your skin. It is similar to pulsed dye laser therapy but has a lower risk of causing skin damage.
Microdermabrasion. This procedure includes polishing the skin with small crystals to reveal fresh skin behind the stretch marks. Microdermabrasion may help improve the appearance of older marks in some circumstances.
Laser therapy with excimer. This increases the formation of skin pigment (melanin), blending stretch scars more closely with the surrounding skin.
