No one has a completely symmetrical face. On all sides of the face, almost everyone has characteristics that do not necessarily match each other. One cheek may be larger than the other, or one forehead may be higher than the other. This may be the product of genetics, ageing, a medical operation, or a disease like Bell's Palsy, which causes the muscles on one side of the face to relax.
Some people claim that facial asymmetry gives them a special or charming appearance, while others feel that it takes away their self-confidence.
How to correct facial asymmetry?
Restoring facial symmetry is all about physics. Each case is different, but it is important to realize that symmetry correction is more difficult than other regular procedures.
We usually utilize three different tools; neurotoxin (Botox, Dysport), HA fillers (Juvederm, Restylane) and threads. For example, a crooked smile can be correct with a neurotoxin (Botox, Dysport) in the DAO muscle on the depressed side and the levator muscle on the raised corner. This is an advanced technique and should be kept for an experienced injector.
Fillers would restore the volume in case of fat atrophy on one side of the face. Moreover, Threads would also helo provide mechanical lifting on the saggy side.
A female in her 50's presented to Albany Cosmetic and Laser center in Edmonton with facial asymmetry due to previous dental work. After a thorough consultation with Dr. Kamal Alhallak (a Pharmacist with Ph.D. in Pharmacy), he planned the injection site and the amount. In this case, we used one cc of HA fillers (Juvederm or a similar brand), a neurotoxin solution (Botox or a similar brand) were injected in the DAO and other muscles, along with implementing two threads (silhouette or similar health Canada approved brand).
The cost of this procedure was close to 2500 CAD.
The bruising and redness may last for one week. The client might feel tight at the side of threads for two weeks.
