Treatments for Rosacea
Rosacea is a skin condition that is characterized by frequent flushing or blushing and a generally bright red appearance to the skin on the face. Treatments for Rosacea include many skin care products you can use before going to see a professional, but if you have tried everything and are ready to step it up a notch, then I am happy to inform you about the intense pulsed light laser or IPL for short that treats Rosacea and among other things.
What is IPL?
IPL is similar to laser treatment. However, a laser focuses just one wavelength of light on your skin, while IPL releases light of many different wavelengths, like a photo flash. The light from IPL is more scattered and less focused than a laser. IPL penetrates down to the second layer of your skin (dermis) without harming the top layer (epidermis), so it causes less damage to your skin. It uses a laser to pulse through the skin’s surface, targeting a specific area in the underlying tissue. In the treatment for Rosacea, the laser causes the pigment to break down into smaller particles before rising up to the skin’s surface to flake away as part of the body’s natural healing process.
Treatment of Rosacea with IPL Case 1054
A female in her late 60s came in with concerns regarding the redness on her cheeks. Even though it’s not a health concern, the patient clearly stated that she wants it gone. After carefully reviewing her options and keeping her medical history in mind, we decided to proceed with three sessions using the intense pulsed light laser (IPL) would be best and would give her the desired results. This specific procedure was done in under 45 minutes, and no numbing was used in order to treat the area properly.
The procedure for treating rosacea
We used the IPL laser, which uses controlled light in specific wavelengths to alleviate the redness on the cheeks. We provide eye protection during the procedure for the safety of our patients. While most people are fine with the light pulses, the treatment would feel like a light, bearable sting.
IPL Cost
Each session is $250.00, but at Albany Laser & Cosmetic Medical Spa in Edmonton, Canada we offer a package of 3 sessions with a 20% discount of $700.00.
Side Effects of Rosacea Treatment with IPL
The main side effects to be expected are bruising, swelling, and redness which lasts up to 4-5 days. However, the side effects vary with each person depending on their skin type.
Results
Inserted below are before and after pictures of three sessions that were taken 2 weeks apart. You can see results almost immediately after the second session.
