Using Fraxel Dual Laser

for Wrinkle Removal and Skin Tightening

Wrinkles and saggy skin are an inevitable fallout of the aging process, forcing us to go over and above to make sure we retain our youth. This is the primary reason why skin care products and anti-aging creams eat up a large chunk of our cash in our quest to maintain a youthful and beautiful appearance.

In recent years, however, there have been advances in the field of dermatology that can give people a bright, fresh and bright skin.  Fraxel Dual Laser is one of the most effective tools for making your skin look younger is the Fraxel Dual Laser.

Fraxel Dual Laser or Fractional Resurfacing Laser is a combination of two lasers including the 1927mm wavelength which is used for superficial treatment pigmentation and the 1550 wavelength for the treatment of skin texture. Combined or used together, the components of the Fraxel Dual Laser provide great results for wrinkle removal, skin tightening and other dermatological issues.

How Does Fraxel work?

Fraxel laser treatment works by creating microscopic laser columns in sun-damaged and aging skins that deeply penetrate the skin to stimulate the production of collagen and healthy skin cells. The Fraxel treatment creates 1000-2000 microthermal zones per centimeter square, leaving more tissue untouched for enhanced healing. Fraxel treatment helps build new skin by lightly damaging some areas of the skin while leaving some parts intact to promote the growth of healthy skin cells and collagen.

What Can Fraxel Dual Laser Treat

Fraxel treatment is ideal for various types of skin conditions including:

  • Fine wrinkles, sun damage, aging on the face, neck, chest, back, hands, arms, and legs.
  • To treat specific acne scars and surgical scars and melasma.
  • To reduce precancerous lesions on the skin.
  • To improve skin tone and texture and treat fine lines and crepiness on the eyelids and around the eyes.

Do Fraxel Treatment Work for Skin Tightening?

Fraxel treatments can provide skin tightening, but the results are not as excellent as that of pigmentation treatment. This is because Fraxel treatment works by damaging the skin lightly while leaving some areas untouched for faster healing. Whereas, skin tightening requires the stimulation of collagen production. Collagen is responsible for the firmness of the skin, and the skin tightens as the production of collagen increases.

Fraxel in combination with treatments designed specifically for skin tightening provides better results.

Are Fraxel Treatments Expensive?

The cost of Fraxel treatments depends on your locality, the practice that you choose to have your treatment, and the size of the area that needs treatment. You need between $900-$1400 for a full face laser resurfacing while a full face and eyelid treatment can set you back by up to $1400 to $1900. A Fraxel treatment covering the full face plus the neck and chest goes for about $1500 to $1900. You may need to pay additional fees if the treatment covers some scars.

What Should I Do Before Fraxel Treatment?

Your doctor will advise you on what to do before having your treatment. However, here are some of the instructions that your doctor may give you:

  • Stop using drugs such as Accutane six months before your treatment.
  • You may be asked to stop using Aspirin, Advil, Retinols, Renova, anti-aging products 1-2 weeks before the treatment.
  • You will also have to stop using tetracycline and related medications, stop using glycolic acid treatments, avoid sun exposure two weeks before treatment and stop waxing among others.
  • What should I do on treatment day?
  • Don’t be late! Be sure to eat a meal about 1-2 hours before your treatment to avoid a jittery feeling due to a topical anesthetic.
  • Wear comfortable clothes, but don’t wear any makeup.
  • No caffeine four hours before your treatment and remember to come with a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face after the treatment.

Who Can’t Have Fraxel Treatment

You can’t undergo Fraxel treatment if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have bleeding disorders. You may not have the treatment if you are using anticoagulants and medications that promote photosensitivity.

What should I Expect During a Fraxel Laser Treatment?

Your doctor will tell you to arrive 1h30 minutes before the treatment and make sure to keep to time. You will then apply numbing cream on the areas that need treatment after which you wait for the treatment.

Once the numbing cream has taken effect, you will wash it off for the treatment to commence.

A full face Fraxel treatment takes about one hour. During the procedure, you might feel a prickly sensation which can be mild or moderate.

What Are the Side Effects of a Fraxel Treatment?

After your treatment, it’s common for the treated areas to become red and swollen like you suffered a sunburn. To minimize the discomfort, apply ice packs to the area for about five to ten minutes every hour during the first 5-6 hours’ post-treatment. The swelling is usually minimal and will often disappear after a day or two, and the redness will clear off before the end of a week. Your skin may feel dry, itchy, flaky, or peeling.

Your skin will also become brown after a few days of having the treatment, and this may last up to two weeks. Your skin may also exfoliate and flake, but you can reduce this by applying a moisturizer. The healing process depends on the intensity of the treatment and your body’s response.

How Many Treatments Will Provide Results?

The general treatment requirements are between three to five spaced 3-8 weeks apart. Your doctor will provide an estimate appropriate for your condition, and you will begin to see gradual improvements as the treatment progresses.

What Are the Post-Fraxel Treatment Precautions?

Your doctor will provide detailed instructions on what to do. However, you should avoid direct sun exposure, always wear sunscreen of SPF 30 and above, and be sure to have a wide-brimmed hat on whenever you are in the sun for a minimum of three months’ post-treatment.

What Are the Advantages of Fraxel Treatments?

Fraxel treatments can give you a younger looking and fresher skin, and can also improve texture and tone. It can also reduce wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes. Fraxel treatments can also improve acne scars, surgical scars and tighten the skin.
