BODY SCULPTING TECHNOLOGY; COOLSCULPTING
WHAT IS COOLSCULPTING?
CoolSculpting is an FDA cleared noninvasive cosmetic procedure is a unique technology that freezes the fat to a temperature such that the fat dies, however, the skin, muscles, and nerves are not affected. However, CoolSculpting can also be used after liposuction or treatment with other skin-tightening procedures to plug away any contour irregularities.
WHEN WAS IT APPROVED?
CoolSculping was a new technique, just approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2012.
HOW DOES COOLSCULPTING WORKS?
The CoolSculpting technology uses controlled cooling to target and freezes a part of the fat cells under your skin. In the weeks that take after treatment, the body naturally begins to process the fat cells that were frozen amid treatment and removes them from the treatment region thereby affecting the presence of the treated bulge. Changes may start in as early as three weeks after your CoolSculpting procedure and will experience the most sensational results after one to three months. Your body will continue to naturally process the injured fat cells for not less than four months after your procedure, and the results may take up to 4 months to become visible.
WHO SHOULD AVOID IT?
CoolSculpting is considered a safe, efficient approach to reduce the number of fat cells in a small target area. It is not considered a type of weight loss and not recommended for the treatment of obesity. The procedure is designed to help dissolve stubborn fat cells that usually just shrink through diet and exercise. People with less active immune systems are not ideal candidates for this type of cosmetic procedure. People with some specific conditions that change or weaken the body’s capacity to handle the cold can also face serious medical complications.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF COOLSCULPTING?
The regular immediate side effects of CoolSculpting include pinching sensation, redness, minor swelling, bruising, tenderness, stinging, tingling, numbness, skin sensitivity, mild to moderate pain, muscle cramping. You may continue to experience these side effects for some weeks after CoolSculpting. Other commonly experienced side effects that you may experience in the first few weeks after CoolSculpting include: itchiness (few days taking the treatment), diarrhea, as dead fat cells are expelled from the body a feeling of fullness in the throat after treatments including the neck or chin region. Some rare complications that may happen after CoolSculpting include: pain that starts for days after the procedure and usually resolves when numbness is no longer present, or after about one month scarring or changes to skin shading reduced movement or response of the tongue, lower lip muscle weakness and dry mouth is experienced following procedures including the chin or neck frostbite, or first-and second-degree freeze burns dizziness, unsteadiness, sweating, painting, nausea, and flushing hyperpigmentation, or dark skin coloration that many atimes resolve on its own subcutaneous induration, a generalized hardness or specific hard nodules that develop in the treated region and can be painful and undesirable.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING COOLSCULPTING?
CoolSculpting is a non-surgical procedure that may take from one to several hours, depending on your treatment design. No pain medication or topical anesthesia is needful. As the procedure is started, vacuum pressure pulls tissue into an applicator cup between cooling panels. The vacuum pressure usually causes sensations of tugging, pinching and keep pulling in the site being treated. You may also experience acute aching or cramping, stinging and tingling. These sensations wear off as the site becomes numb.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER THE FIRST FEW DAYS AND WEEKS AFTER COOLSCULPTING?
It is normal for the treated site to feel bloated and appear swollen in few days and weeks after CoolSculpting. You may go through a short-term dulling of sensation that can last for several weeks. At some point within the first two weeks following the treatment, you may encounter one or more of the accompanying sensations: deep itching, tingling, numbness, tenderness to the touch, pain in the treated site, muscle spasms, strong cramping, diarrhea, aching as well as soreness. Consult your specialist if these conditions persist beyond two weeks or worsen over time. Following the procedure, a progressive reduction in the thickness of the fat layer will take place. You may start to see changes as early as three weeks after CoolSculpting, and you will experience the most emotional results after 1-3 months.
IS THERE ANY CONDITION THAT SIGNIFICANTLY rules OUT THE USE OF COOLSCULPTING?
Yes, Conditions that negate the use of CoolSculpting include: pregnancy, attempting to become pregnant, breastfeeding, cryoglobulinemia, a disorder where proteins that usually just increase in response to cold are in unusually high concentrations, cold agglutinin disease, an autoimmune condition where change in temperature cause red blood cells paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria to die, a condition where red blood cells die in response to change in temperature. Raynaud’s disease chilblains, reduced circulation or skin sensation at the treatment area, nerve conditions, such as diabetics, neuropathy skin conditions related to the immune system, such as eczema and psoriasis, inflammatory skin conditions, such as dermatitis and hives, a recent injury to the skin area being treated including scar tissue, long haul use of blood thinning medications, bleeding conditions that thin the blood history of a hernia or a hernia in or near the treatment site, implanted medical devices, such as pacemakers allergy to propylene glycol or isopropyl liquor, constant pain conditions and severe anxiety disorders.
DOES COOLSCULPTING HAVE LONG TERM EFFECT(S)?
Reduced lip and tongue movement, so also dryness in the mouth, are likely side effects of CoolSculpting on the neck and chin. In some seldom cases, fat cells react to CoolSculpting by enlarging rather than dying. This condition is known as paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH).
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
One admired benefit of CoolSculpting is that, unlike with diet and exercise, fat cells are destroyed and removed from the body. Meaning the same fat cells can’t return or enlarge with weight gain. There are several other benefits of CoolSculpting: It is a safe procedure for most people. The skin barrier is not broken or compromised, taking away most of the risk of complications, such as infection and scarring. There is no need to take time off from office or mundane activities after the treatment. The results are natural, as they develop bit by bit in the weeks following the surgery. It can help people who have lost weight or have a healthy weight yet have excess fat in specific regions. There is less risk of regaining weight and results are durable because fat cells are destroyed and removed from the body. The risk of skin dimpling or bumps is low because fat cells are destroyed evenly across the affected skin. In general, the procedure can help improve self-confidence, particularly when merged with weight loss achieved through an exercise and a healthful diet.
